About Us

St. Teresa’s Secondary School-Kithumu is a Catholic sponsored girls-only Boarding school located in Nembure location in Embu County. The School opened its doors for learning on 5th march, 1979 with 11 girls and 2 teachers. It was started on a Harambee basis. Today it is a large four stream extra county secondary school.

Goal: To promote academic excellence, human dignity, and aesthetic sense.

St. Teresa’s Girls School Kithimu aims to prepare students to make a positive contribution to the development of society and to acquire the values of national patriotism, self-respect, self-reliance, cooperation, adaptability, a sense of purpose, and self-discipline.

Secondary school education in Kenya starts at 14 years of age and runs for four years. Upon completion, students sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). This prepares them for universitycolleges, middle-level trades, professions, vocational and technical training.

School Curriculum

The secondary school curriculum in Kenya covers six major areas:

  1. Mathematics.
  2. Communication: English, Kiswahili, and French,
  3. Science: Physics, Biology and chemistry.
  4. Humanities: History& Government, geography, religious education, 
  5. Applied Education: Agriculture, business studies, home science,  computer studies
  6. Physical Education.

Form one selection is strictly done via academic merit and ministry of education guidelines. Most of the time students who have high KCPE marks and had selected the school as the first choice is given first priority
